Trees for the Climate

Auckland Zen Centre

For more than a decade members of the Auckland Zen Centre have been planting trees: every year we join with others and plant trees at a local restoration project and, closer to home, we have also planted trees in a patch of wasteland that backs onto our zendo (meditation hall) in Onehunga. The process of reclaiming the wasteland has been uneven, as resources and energy have waxed and waned, especially over the last two years when Covid has caused so many disruptions. But the beautiful thing is, that once carefully planted, the trees have got on with the business of growing themselves. Despite our absences and preoccupations with other things, year after year, the trees have given out cool shade and oxygen and shelter to all comers.
